{"id":34453,"date":"2022-08-03T05:23:55","date_gmt":"2022-08-03T03:23:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/desarrollo.ypsossafety.com\/movable-landings-regulations-and-uses\/"},"modified":"2026-10-29T23:27:09","modified_gmt":"2026-10-29T22:27:09","slug":"movable-landings-regulations-and-uses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/desarrollo.ypsossafety.com\/en\/movable-landings-regulations-and-uses\/","title":{"rendered":"Movable Landings: Regulations and Uses"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes it is necessary to install special measures to<a href=\"https:\/\/ypsossafety.com\/protecciones-colectivas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> increase safety and make work easier for users at height.<\/a> This is the case with hinged landings or movable landings on <a href=\"https:\/\/ypsossafety.com\/escalera-vertical\/\">ladders<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this week&#8217;s post, we will take a closer look at them: the regulations that govern them, the uses they are intended for, and the materials used to manufacture them.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>REGULATIONS<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Royal Decree 486\/1997 <\/em>establishes the minimum safety and health provisions in the workplace, which lists a series of general mandatory measures for the use of ladders.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The measures for installing these safety elements are regulated by the <em>UNE-EN ISO 14122-4 Fixed ladders<\/em> standard and the <em>UNE-EN 14396:2004 Fixed ladders for manholes<\/em> standard.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These standards contain the various requirements for specific dimensions, shapes, lengths, materials, and their distances to other elements, which make our safety system comply with current regulations.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With regard to design, the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/ypsossafety.com\/norma-une-en-iso-14122\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">UNE-EN ISO 14122-2<\/a><\/em> and <a href=\"https:\/\/ypsossafety.com\/escalera-con-plataforma-une-en-iso-14122-3\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>UNE-EN ISO 14122-3<\/em>.<\/a> standards must also be taken into account.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"737\" src=\"https:\/\/ypsossafety.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/ESCALERA-EL-POZO-YPSOS-2.jpg\" alt=\"rebrik ladder with movable landing in an industrial facility\" class=\"wp-image-9881\" style=\"width:356px;height:436px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/desarrollo.ypsossafety.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/ESCALERA-EL-POZO-YPSOS-2.jpg 600w, https:\/\/desarrollo.ypsossafety.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/ESCALERA-EL-POZO-YPSOS-2-244x300.jpg 244w, https:\/\/desarrollo.ypsossafety.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/ESCALERA-EL-POZO-YPSOS-2-64x79.jpg 64w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Ladder with hinged landings manufactured by Ypsos<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Use<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Referring to the <em>UNE-EN ISO 14122-4<\/em> standard, when we install a vertical, continuous access ladder, we have to take its height into account. Ladders over 10 meters high must have fall arrest devices, and landings or intermediate platforms must be placed every 6 meters, including the following:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Intermediate platforms<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Rest platforms<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Intermediate landings<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Movable landings<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>l<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This time we are going to focus on movable landings. These landings are installed to let the user rest and change flights. They must be 4 meters or more in width and 3 meters or more in length when they are one-piece. If they have two parts, the width must be 1.3 meters or more, with the same length.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"820\" src=\"https:\/\/ypsossafety.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/ESCALERA-EL-POZO-YPSOS-3-600x820-1.jpg\" alt=\"rebrik ladder with hinged landing installed in the shaft\" class=\"wp-image-9883\" style=\"width:366px;height:497px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/desarrollo.ypsossafety.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/ESCALERA-EL-POZO-YPSOS-3-600x820-1.jpg 600w, https:\/\/desarrollo.ypsossafety.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/ESCALERA-EL-POZO-YPSOS-3-600x820-1-220x300.jpg 220w, https:\/\/desarrollo.ypsossafety.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/ESCALERA-EL-POZO-YPSOS-3-600x820-1-64x87.jpg 64w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Ladder with hinged landings manufactured by Ypsos<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This type of hinged landing can be used, for example, in factories dedicated to food production.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When a maintenance technician has to reach the top of a machine for repair, and it is more than 10 meters high, the only means of access is a ladder anchored to the wall.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And as we mentioned before, landings are needed every 6 meters to make the user&#8217;s work easier and to make the most of the limited space in certain factories.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Besides being installed in factories, movable landings on ladders are used in other places, such as:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Stacker cranes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Silos.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Industry in general.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Shafts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mines.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We add to these all kinds of places where safe access is difficult or where space is very limited.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>MATERIALS<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As mentioned above, movable or hinged landings can be installed in silos or shafts, places where there is a risk of corrosion. With this in mind, the best material currently available for manufacturing landings is FRP, a plastic material reinforced with fiberglass. This makes it lighter in weight and therefore ensures we meet the weight limits the regulations require.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Besides being suitable for silos or shafts, this material is advantageous in:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Marine environments.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Chemical plants.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wastewater treatment plants.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Manholes or inspection shafts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Food factories, where production processes can corrode other materials.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ypsossafety.com\/nuevo-fabricante-de-seguridad-en-altura\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">In short,<\/a> movable or hinged landings for ladders can be very useful for making things easier and ensuring user safety in hard-to-reach areas or areas with limited space.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sometimes it is necessary to install special measures to increase safety and make work easier for users at height.
