In this post, we will discuss the different systems that can be used together on an industrial roof and what role each one plays against the different risks we encounter.<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-content-justification-center is-layout-flex wp-container-core-buttons-is-layout-fe48e5de wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button is-style-fill\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-background has-medium-font-size has-custom-font-size wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/ypsossafety.com\/contacto-ypsos\/\" style=\"background-color:#ff7514\">Contact us for more information<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Getting Up to the Roof: A Fixed Ladder at the Access Point<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Good access is essential. It is common to find portable ladders used for a quick visit, but this type of ladder is not suitable for maintenance work where you are carrying tools or materials. The ideal solution is to install a vertical ladder, which can be either a fixed vertical ladder or a 45\u00b0 technical stair ladder.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Fixed Vertical Ladder and 45\u00b0 Technical Stair Ladder: When to Use Each<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/desarrollo.ypsossafety.com\/en\/fixed-vertical-ladder\/\">fixed vertical ladder<\/a> takes up little space on the facade and is the right option when the available area next to the building is minimal. The 45\u00b0 technical stair ladder takes up more space, but the climb is easier, for example for workers who are carrying a load. There is no fixed rule for choosing one or the other; we must take into account factors such as height, available clearance, and frequency of use.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>UNE-EN ISO 14122-4 and UNE-EN ISO 14122-2 Standards<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These types of ladders are governed by different standards, so it is important to confirm with the project manager which one applies.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The fixed vertical ladder is certified under UNE-EN ISO 14122-4, the part of the series dedicated to fixed ladders. It is manufactured in sections up to 6 m long and includes a safety cage from 3 m in height. It provides access to roofs, flat roofs, rooftops, and attics.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 45\u00b0 technical stair ladder is manufactured in accordance with UNE-EN ISO 14122-2, the part covering access platforms and walkways. Its inclined configuration includes a safety guardrail, is designed for frequent and comfortable traffic, and can incorporate work platforms and roof walkways within the same route.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Moving Across Roofs That Cannot Bear Weight<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On a <strong>fragile roof<\/strong>, stepping outside the supporting structure can create risks that we cannot overlook in work at height.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Roof Walkways to Define the Route and Distribute the Load<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The roof walkway is designed for fragile roofs and marks out the path to the equipment. This route is defined in the project, and maintenance or cleaning personnel who need to go up to the roof only occasionally must be informed of it, in addition to the route being properly marked.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Fragile Roof, Sandwich Panel, and Trapezoidal Metal Sheet: What Changes in Each Case<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each type of roof has different needs, both for the anchor points and for the type of safety system to use at any given time. Before installing one system or another, you need to know what lies underneath and understand the structure well.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Overcoming Pipes, Ducts, and Obstacles on the Roof<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A well-defined route is interrupted when an obstacle is left unresolved, and there is a temptation to step over it or to take a detour where one should not.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Crossover: Where It Is Needed and What It Solves<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The crossover provides a safe and effective solution for getting past obstacles or level differences on roofs. It is intended for the protection of industrial roofs, passages between platforms, access to machinery, and any installation that requires continuity and safety when moving at height.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is governed by the Spanish standard UNE-EN 14122-2, which regulates work platforms, walkways, and fixed access ladders for equipment.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Perimeter and Edges Along the Same Route<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are sections where the path runs along the edge of the roof; in this case, perimeter protection must be used. The safety guardrail also complements the access in a safe way. It is governed by <strong>UNE-EN ISO 14122-3<\/strong>, which sets out the safety requirements for permanent means of access to machinery.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Conclusion<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Safe roof access cannot be solved with a single system; as we have seen, we may encounter various factors that call for a more specific type. Each element is covered by its own standard, and that standard should appear in the documentation that comes with the product.
