Proper cleaning is important because of:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Visual inspection:<\/strong> Cleaning helps us remove dust or mud that can hide damage such as rust.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Material preservation:<\/strong> Certain contaminants accelerate the degradation of the material.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Load buildup:<\/strong> In areas with heavy rainfall or during adverse weather events such as a DANA (cut-off low storm), the extra weight of mud or hardened cement can create additional stress.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How Can Dirt and Dust Affect It?<\/h4>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dirt, dust, mud or even standing water can have various consequences, such as:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Accelerating the <a href=\"https:\/\/ypsossafety.com\/las-mallas-de-seguridad-caducan-cuando-sustituirlas-y-por-que\/\">wear of the nets<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Retaining moisture.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reducing the flexibility of the nets because of the extra accumulated weight.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Is There a Difference Between a Clean Net and a Deteriorated One in Load Behavior?<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yes. As we have mentioned, dirt buildup can lead to the net malfunctioning, for example by affecting:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The ability to absorb energy in a fall<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Lower impact resistance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tearing, due to accumulated wear if, for example, it has been rained on with muddy water<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How Often Should Safety Nets Be Cleaned?<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This will depend on how the net is used and where it is located, since, for example, a net on a north-facing roof will not receive the same amount of <a href=\"https:\/\/ypsossafety.com\/condiciones-climaticas-en-los-trabajos-en-altura\/\">water (rain)<\/a> as one on a south-facing roof.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Signs That a Net Is Not Safe<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whether because of dirt or other reasons, there are certain signs that indicate the net may not work correctly in the event of a fall. These can be:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Corrosion, either on the net or on its anchors<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rust<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Deformation, for example from accumulated weight if snow has fallen<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Loose fastenings and anchors<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Should You Not Do in These Cases?<\/h4>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As owners or users of the roof where the nets are <a href=\"https:\/\/ypsossafety.com\/errores-al-instalar-mallas-de-seguridad-en-lucernarios\/\">installed<\/a>, we may try to fix any damage they have so we can go back to working safely, but sometimes this would only make the situation worse.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Below are some actions we do not recommend:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Painting over the net<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Using tools or utensils aggressively to remove debris<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Modifying the net: cutting it, bending it, joining one area to another&#8230;, without instructions from the manufacturer or an accredited installation company<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Conclusion<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cleaning safety nets is not just about appearance; proper <a href=\"https:\/\/ypsossafety.com\/revision-mallas-de-seguridad\/\">inspection and maintenance<\/a> ensures that the system keeps its ability to absorb impact in the event of a fall, and therefore remains fit for use.
