Everything You Need to Know About the Sheet-Mounted Guardrail

How the Guardrail Is Fastened to Trapezoidal or Flat Sheet Metal

The guardrail is fastened to the sheet metal through a base plate that spreads the load over several ridges of the corrugated profile, avoiding concentrating the stress at a single weak bearing point. On flat sheet, without corrugation, the plate is matched to the thickness of the sheet so that the fasteners do not tear the material under horizontal load.

    Fastening System and Hardware

    • Self-drilling hex-head fasteners, calibrated to the thickness of the sheet metal.
    • Load distribution plate under each post, so as not to punch through the corrugated profile.
    • Sealing at each fixing point, so as not to compromise the watertightness of the roof.
    • Distance between posts of 1,500 mm, adjustable according to the project’s load calculation.

Standards and Testing for the Sheet-Mounted Guardrail

We test and certify ANANKE Plate in accordance with the UNE-EN 14122-3 standard. The test is performed by DEKRA Testing and Certification GmbH, an independent laboratory, with a report available for your project documentation or for the site inspection.

The certification covers the complete installation of the system (guardrail, rivets, and fastening hardware) under horizontal and vertical load on sheet metal. In other words, it verifies that the whole system holds together, not each part separately.

If your project has sheet metal with a different thickness or profile than the one tested, the certificate alone is not enough to guarantee that it will hold the same; the data sheet for that specific roof must be reviewed and the fastening calculated for that particular case before saying which system to use.
