Testing and Certifications
Every fall arrest system is manufactured and tested in accordance with its current standard.
Tests and trials, as well as the certificates issued after them, guarantee that the systems have been designed, manufactured, and tested under specific standards.
Every fall arrest system is manufactured and tested in accordance with its current standard; for guardrails, for example, that would be UNE-EN ISO 14122-3.
These tests are carried out in independent laboratories, which ensures impartiality when issuing the certificates.
Having products that have been tested and certified gives us certain guarantees.
They guarantee worker safety
Fall arrest system tests put each of its components, and the product as a whole, to the test, verifying that:
- Strength: they withstand the real loads generated during a fall; the standard tells us the minimum each system must withstand in the event of a fall.
- Impact force: they properly and functionally limit the energy the body would absorb in the event of a fall.
- Operation: in the event of a fall, the system would work correctly.
Standards compliance
The certifications issued after testing show that the system complies with the standards in force at that time:
- UNE-EN ISO 14122-2: walkways and crossovers.
- UNE-EN ISO 14122-2 / UNE-EN ISO 14122-4 : fixed and vertical ladders.
- UNE-EN ISO 14122-3: safety guardrails.
- UNE-EN ISO 14963:2007 / UNE-EN ISO 1873:2015+A1:2016: safety net.
- UNE-EN ISO 795 / UNE-EN ISO 17235 / UNE-EN ISO 353: horizontal and vertical lifelines.
Compatibility between components
A fall arrest system is not a single piece of equipment, but a set of components. Testing and certifications ensure that no incompatibilities arise that would increase the risk during a fall.
They validate the system's behavior
When a system is tested, it is put through different tests and repetitions that reproduce extreme situations such as:
- Falls
- Dynamic and static loads
- Repeated use and wear
Traceability, confidence, and control
Certification means having technical documentation, product identification, and tests performed by accredited, independent laboratories.
Fall arrest systems are tested through regulated technical processes, which means demonstrating that they meet the safety requirements set by the standard. This process has several phases:
01 / DEFINITION
02 / TESTING
- Mechanical
- Functional
- Additional (if necessary)
03 / EVALUATION
04 / CERTIFICATION
Not all laboratories are accredited to perform tests under every standard, so the product must be tested at a laboratory accredited for the corresponding standard.

Frequently Asked Questions About Testing and Certifications
Why are testing and certifications necessary?
Testing and certifications guarantee that the systems have been designed, manufactured, and tested under specific standards.
Where are the tests carried out?
They are carried out in independent laboratories, which ensures impartiality when issuing the certificates. DEKRA Testing and Certification GmbH and Applus+ Laboratories are examples of laboratories accredited to certify fall arrest systems.
At YPSOS SAFETY, we also run our own internal tests, following the technical guidelines.
What is checked in a test?
Each of the components and the product as a whole are put to the test, and the system’s strength, impact force, and operation are verified. To do this, extreme situations such as falls, dynamic and static loads, and repeated use and wear are reproduced.
